The Bronze Statue of Peng Dehuai is located in front of his former residence in Xiangtan, Hunan, China. In 1998, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Peng Dehuai's birth, the statue was designed by sculptor Cheng Yunxian and manufactured by the Nanjing Chenguang Machinery Factory. The bronze figure itself stands 5.1-metre (17 ft) tall, and with the 3.1-metre (10 ft) high granite base, the total height reaches 8.1-metre (27 ft). It symbolizes "August 1st Army Day", signifying that Marshal Peng Dehuai was one of the founders of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The sculpture depicts Peng Dehuai standing with his hands clasped behind his back, wearing a marshal's uniform. The base is inscribed with the calligraphy "Comrade Peng Dehuai" by Jiang Zemin.
