NGC 7531是位於天鶴座的中間螺旋星系，距離地球約7千萬光年，物理尺寸約為95000光年。[1]1836年9月2日，約翰·赫歇爾發現該星系。[2]
特徵
[編輯]NGC 7531內部區域有高面亮度的環狀結構。環內有很強的恆星形成活動，大量星團和H II區。[3]據H-α波段輻射強度估算，恆星形成速率約為每年0.41 ± 0.12 M☉。[4]近紅外波段觀測數據顯示，該星系是有十分微弱的棒狀結構，但是內環的恆星主要沿圓軌道運行。[3]
該星系有兩個面亮度低，但是比較清晰的旋臂，旋臂中觀測到了H II屈，此處恆星形成活動劇烈。[3]目前普遍認為，該星系內部有一個超大質量黑洞。由旋臂相對於視線的角度，可估計出黑洞的質量約為3百萬到4千8百萬(107.07±0.61)M☉ 。[5]該星系與視線的夾角為66°。[3]
NGC 7531內爆發過Ib/Ic型超新星SN 2012dj，最高亮度為15.3等。[6]
鄰近星系
[編輯]在長曝光照相底片中，星系核心西邊2.6角分處有巨大的低面亮度結構，該結構的直徑超過NGC 7531視直徑的一半。[3]這個結構是恆星雲，可能是NGC 7531的衛星星系。[7]
NGC 7531與NGC 7552，NGC 7582，NGC 7590，NGC 7599和NGC 7632共同組成NGC 7582星系群（又稱天鶴座星系群）[8]。
