Hello! I'm For Each ... Next, though some may remember me as Lopullinen, my former username. While my name pays homage to Visual Basic 6.0, the first programming language I encountered, I am a fan of Python, which I consider the most elegant language in the world.

I've been passionate about video gaming for over a decade, but more recently, I have developed an interest in linguistics and literature, which I am currently studying as my undergraduate major.

Wikipedia life

I'm most active on the Chinese Wikipedia, mainly focusing on maintenance work around WikiProject Video games. While writing articles is the primary responsibility, behind-the-scenes work also plays a key role in building the encyclopedia.

A decade ago, the Chinese Wikipedia was much weaker, so I focused on translating and importing model articles, as well as creating stubs to help build out categories and templates. Although this is now less necessary—and I know it's time to write a good article of my own—these habits are deeply ingrained, and they still make me hesitate.

I also participate in the review process. On the one hand, thorough reviews can genuinely improve articles and uncover issues that an editor alone might miss. On the other hand, an article only has value if it is read. Since I'm not a reader who needs the article right now, I believe conducting thorough reviews is the best way to show respect for the editor's efforts.

Compared with the English Wikipedia, where review discussions can run to several pages of detailed comments, the review process on the Chinese Wikipedia often functions as a rubber stamp. Because that culture is so entrenched, many editors, especially new participants, treat reviews like admin votes and leave a support tag but nothing. So I try to write essays—mainly by translating from the experienced English community—to help us understand what a review is meant to be.

But I believe that conducting thorough reviews, not simply writing essays, is the only way to take a step forward. I hope there will be more room for Nikkimaria's strict-review mindset on Chinese Wikipedia community, but for now I tend to take the opposite tack: I may deliberately overlook minor formatting and style issues to emphasize that reviews should focus on substantive content, which is often what Chinese Wikipedia reviews lack most.
