Rad51是真核生物体内的一种蛋白质，与原核生物的RecA 同源，是一种高度保守的蛋白，从酵母菌到人类之间的变异不大。人类的Rad51含有339个氨基酸，于同源重组中扮演主要角色，参与搜寻同源部位与DNA的配对过程。

人类的Rad51的基因位于第15号染色体。包括此基因在内，哺乳类共有七种类似recA的基因，包括Rad51、Rad51L1/B、Rad51L2/C、Rad51L3/D、XRCC2、XRCC3以及DMC1^[5]。
